Ketchum Cottage Managed by the Amherst Shore Country Inn

Ketchum Cottage

On a bluff overlooking the beach, near Amherst, Nova Scotia, the Ketchum Cottages offer a commanding view of the sea. Beach access is easy and convenient. It’s a couple of moments along a wooded trail through a Nova Scotia beach park dedicated by the province to Henry Ketchum’s attempt to build a “Ship’s Railway” in the early 1800’s. If completed this Railway would have carried tall ships across Nova Scotia to & from the Northumberland Strait to the Bay of Fundy.

The beach is perfect for exploring at low tide. The water is deep enough for swimming for a few of hours on either side of high tide. At low tide, there’s miles of beach to explore. In front of the cottages, there is a 30′ bank. It gives the commanding view of the sea from the cottage.

The Ketchum Cottage was used by Henry Ketchum, himself, as he was building the Northumberland Strait Terminus of the Chignecto Marine Transport Railway (CMTR). While the cottage maintains the ambience of the late 1800s, it is up-to-date with the modern conveniences that make the cottage life today a very enjoyable experience.

  1. The cottage kitchen is complete with, a dishwasher, a full sized refrigerator complete with an ice making machine, a microwave oven, an electric range, counter space, storage space and the dishes, pots & pans, etc. you will need to prepare meals that will enhance your cottage experience. A table for breakfast or light meals is conveniently located by a window with a view to the sea. The washer & dryer are located at the opposite end of the kitchen area.

  3. There are two bath rooms. The upstairs bathroom is a regular 4 piece. The main floor bath is a 3 piece. It is conveniently located next to the back entrance to the cottage. In addition there is a Jacuzzi tub in the Master bedroom.
  4. There are three bedrooms. All are upstairs. As mentioned, the Master bedroom contains a Jacuzzi. It has a double bed, wing back chair, etc. There are two closets in the room.
